The FAM conferences especially focus on elucidating the specific contribution of the different areas of the medial temporal lobe (MTL) to memory function ‒ a brain area damaged in aging and in patients with amnesia, which leads to severe memory deficits and major impairments in the daily-life. Hence, defining the specific contribution of each MTL area will yield a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying memory in the MTL and could lead to the development of new therapies aiming at rescuing, at least in part, those deficits.
Fifteen world leading experts in human and animal memory will present their latest findings, aiming at bringing new insights on major controversies in human recognition memory as well as bridging further human and animal memory by integrating findings from computational, molecular, neuroanatomical, electrophysiological and imaging studies using state-of-art technical approaches. Especially, this platform gives the unique opportunity to scientists to integrate data emerging from studies in humans and animals on the same MTL areas that however pertain to different thematic foci in memory research.
As in the past, the conference will allow students to meet the speaker in a ‘student/speakers –only session'.
