Georg Kreutzberg was born in Ahrweiler in 1932. He obtained his medical doctoral degree in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1961 and achieved his habilitation at the Institute for Neuropathology of the TU Munich in 1971. From 1964 to 1965, he was postdoctoral fellow at the MIT in the Department of Psychology, Cambridge, USA. In 1978, he became scientific member of the Max-Planck-Institute for Psychiatry, where he worked as director of the Department of Neuromorphology until he retired in 2000. In addition, he was managing director of the Theoretical Institute for Psychiatry/Neurobiology of the MPI in Munich-Martinsried. He chaired the German Neuroscience Society as president from 1999 to 2000. He died in 2019, leaving behind his wife and two sons. |
