Dichgans

Johannes Dichgans
Johannes Dichgans was born in 1938. After studying medicine in Freiburg im Breisgau and in Munich, he obtained a doctoral degree in 1962. He then continued his neurological training and worked as a senior physician with R. Jung in Freiburg from 1965 to 1977. During a research stay at the Institute for Psychology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, USA, he published common work with E. Bizzi, R. Held and L. Young. From 1977 to 2005 Johannes Dichgans was director of the neurological university clinics at the University of Tübingen. He was Vice President of the German Research Council (1999 – 2005), founding director of the Hertie-Institute for Clinical Brain Research in Tübingen (2001), and member of the Leopoldina. He is married, and has 5 children and 6 grandchildren.
