The German Neuroscience Society awarded the Otto Loewi Medal for the second time at this year’s annual meeting. The recipient, who was honored both for his exceptional commitment to the Society and for his significant contributions to science, is

Prof. Dr. Eckart D. Gundelfinger

For many years, Eckart Gundelfinger has been an internationally leading scientist in the field of the molecular organization of synapses. His particular research interests include the presynaptic cytomatrix, the mechanisms of synaptic plasticity, and the pathophysiology of synapses in the context of psychiatric and neurological disorders. Many of his groundbreaking studies have emerged from interdisciplinary collaborations with leading researchers in Germany and around the world.
He is a founding member of the German Neuroscience Society (GNS/NWG) and has supported the Society through numerous voluntary activities since joining in 1992. Since 2012, he has served as a member of the Election Committee for NWG Executive Board elections; he chaired this committee in 2013 and again from 2016 onward. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Editorial Board of Neuroforum, supporting its Editors-in-Chief through several articles and a special issue. In addition, he played a key role in organizing and supporting the inaugural meeting of the Young Neuroscience Society (jNWG), has been a member of the Program Committee for the Göttingen Meeting since 2019, and established the Schram Lecture, which has since become a traditional feature of the conference.

The Neuroscience Society extends its heartfelt congratulations and is delighted to have such loyal, dedicated members who embody a true passion for science as Eckart Gundelfinger.
